The park honors all Revolutionary War patriots who lived in the area that would later become Schuylkill County. Whether they fought in battle, provided critical supplies, or supported the cause in their communities, these individuals shared a commitment to liberty that helped lay the foundation for the nation we know today.

Today, a descendant of one of these historic trees grows in Tamaqua Liberty Tree Park, located on Railroad Street (Route 309 South), across from the historic Tamaqua Railroad Station. This tree is a scion of the last known surviving Liberty Tree—a tulip poplar that once stood in Annapolis, Maryland. That original tree witnessed over four centuries of American history before it fell in 1999. Thanks to conservation efforts, its lineage continues through trees like the one planted in Tamaqua by the people of Schuylkill County on September 7, 2025.

They were farmers, blacksmiths, waggoners, and militiamen—many of them immigrants—who, inspired by the promise of freedom, took up the cause of independence. After the war, they settled in the region’s valleys and hills, raising families, founding towns, and building the communities we call home.
